Grade My Assignments

Please grade my assignments so that I know that I'm doing the work to your liking. Whether I agree or not is not the point; I only need to adjust to how you're grading. Thanks!

Using APA format in Psychology

It appears that many of the psychology majors in our class don't know how to cite using APA 6. The instructor wrote us a nice little post telling us that at this point they are not going to let poor APA style slide.  There are a lot of examples of how to do it properly but the classmates still do their own thing. One point is lost instantly for not following the APA format.

Some of the students in my class are using MLA.  It just seems like they didn't read the syllabus at the beginning of the course.

Do you have problems citing?

Discussion Board Requirements for Courses

I'm up early to do my discussion board responses to at least two people and five for an "A," on the discussion for the week.  They are graded as 25 points total.  We are told that we have to post our initial post by Thursday and the responses no later than Sunday evening, 11:59 p.m.

I see a mad rush on Thursday to meet that initial deadline and as of now, not many have posted any real response. Stating "I agree with what you are saying," isn't a real meaningful response.  I'll have to finish my introduction today. I waited to get a feel for what everyone else was doing and how much detail to put down to a bunch of strangers.

Do you like the BlackBoard system?

Grading at National University

What is the Grading Scale at National University?

National University does grading on the plus/minus system (+/-).  Each of the classes is already planned out for the instructor and they generally follow.  The grading scale for the typical class is shown below.

Participation counts so that might be the deciding factor between getting that B- instead of the C+.

93.34 to 100.00 earns an A grade.
90.00 to 93.33 earns an A- grade.
86.34 to 89.99 earns a B+ grade.
83.34 to 86.33 earns a B grade.
80.00 to 83.33 earns a B- grade.
76.34 to 79.99 earns a C+ grade.
73.34 to 76.33 earns a C grade.
70.00 to 73.33 earns a C- grade.
66.34 to 69.99 earns a D+ grade.
63.34 to 66.33 earns a D grade.
60.00 to 63.33 earns a D- grade.
0 to 59.99 earns an F grade.

The classes are so short that you can determine after the first exam whether you can get the grade you need or want and either drop or study a lot harder. Some classes have an "A" listed as getting 96% for an "A." I wonder if National University is worried about grade inflation.

I looked up the honors that could appear on your degree if the appropriate GPA is achieved:

3.90  to 4.00 for Summa Cum Laude
3.70 to 3.89 for Magna Cum Laude
3.50 to 3.69 for Cum Laude

I posted a link from wikipedia to the honor definitions, but our syllabus mentions that we are not supposed to use wikipedia as a reference, ever!

Grades are required to be posted no later than 10 days after a class is finished.

PSY 427 Biological Psychology

I decided to take the second course in the sequence, PSY 427 (Biological Psychology) first since I think that it is harder than PSY 426 (History of Psychology) at National University.  I spoke to my advisor and they mentioned that I don't have to take the classes in any particular order except for the senior project which must be after all the core classes.  We are using the book by Kalat so this is mainly a review.

If I don't do well in PSY 427, I have ten days to drop and get a full refund. It is interesting that you can take one-third of the course and still get your money back, plus it doesn't show on your transcript, My official report of transferred courses (audit) still isn't complete. After this then I'll be locked in and then I'm sure what courses I'll have to take.

Financial aid still hasn't come through; going through the facebook posts, I see that this is common for National University.

Now, time to do discussion posts before the deadline. I know I'm pushing it.

My Psychology Portfolio at National University

I'm making sure that I take everything that I need and notice that I need to do a psychology portfolio for my psychology degree.  I'm sure that they will explain everything then for my senior project or capstone.

I have already planned out what classes I am going to take:

    PSY 426 History of Psychology
    PSY 427 Biological Psychology
    PSY 428 Developmental Psychology
PSY 429 Intro to Personality Theory
    PSY 430 Intro to Psychopathology
    PSY 432 Social Psychology
    PSY 433 Cognitive Psychology
    PSY 441 Global Psychology
HUB 441 Research Design and Analysis
CHD 440 Drugs, Values and Society
    PSY 480 Senior Project

These are listed as my core classes so I have to pick five courses outside of this to complete my program. It looks like a lot of criminal justice.  Are they pushing us towards a forensic background?

I tried getting credit for some of the courses since I took a similar class at the community college but was told that no lower division can be used for credit in the upper division section.

All my courses are listed on my schedule and financial aid is not responding to my emails. Please no late fee.  Or should I pay it and then wait for the financial aid to kick in.

Earning My Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at National University

Hello everyone! I'm documenting my journey towards getting my degree in psychology.  I transferred from a local community college and chose National University based in La Jolla, California but I am doing all the coursework on-line.

My goal is to graduate Summa Cum Laude and continue on towards my masters and I don't know exactly when I'll finish.  I have an idea, but things are fluid because of work and family but hope to complete everything in 24 months.

Just in case you were wondering, this is not an ad for National University but a description of what I am going through.

I have gone to one of their orientations and met the faculty.  I wouldn't have gone but they will wave the $60 application fee for going. I have already been billed and see it on my admin page. I wonder how long it will be before they credit the total.
